Assistant Leader required for Rugby Youth Dance Company

Rugby Youth Dance Company (RYDC) sessions take place every Thursday during school term time, 6–7.30pm at Avon Valley School in Rugby. The company has now been established for 2 years, and is led by experienced community dance artist and choreographer Alexis Haines. Alongside local and regional performances, Rugby Youth Dance Company are currently taking part in Godiva Awakes, a large scale performance event as part of the London2012 Cultural Olympiad.

Dancescape is offering a recent dance graduate/emerging artist the opportunity to become the Assistant Leader at RYDC, working with Alexis to experience how a youth dance company operates on a weekly basis, including creating choreography, improving technique and rehearsing dance for performance.

The Assistant Leader will need to:
· Have a dance degree, or relevant experience.
· Be able to attend Rugby Youth Dance Company sessions every Thursday between 6-7.30pm at Avon Valley School, Newbold Road, Rugby.
· Have a strong interest in working in dance with young people, and developing your skills to deliver high quality dance with other groups or companies in the future.
· Be willing to lead parts of the sessions with the company, following discussion with the leader.
· Have, or be willing to undertake, a CRB Disclosure at Enhanced Level.
· Ideally, possess Public Liability Insurance with cover of up to £5million.

As this is a professional development opportunity as part of Dancescape’s The Journey, the successful applicant will be provided with a Mentoring Agreement and Record of Learning in order to record their key observations and skills development.

Fee:
This is an unpaid position with an amount of £20 per session available towards travel expenses, which will be paid on receipt of regular invoices.

Terms:
This position is offered to begin as soon as possible during the Autumn term 2011 through to July 2012.
