Freelance dance coordinator required in Staffordshire

Freelance Dance Coordinator Opportunity, October 2011 – July 2012

Freelance Dance Coordinator Brief:

Dance Connected are offering a freelance dance coordinator opportunity to a recent graduate or an experienced freelancer who is interested in gaining valuable experience in the dance sector. Working with the Dance Development Officer, the coordinator will have the opportunity to learn about aspects of the dance development programme for Staffordshire and assist in the co-ordination of ‘Get Dancing’, the Staffordshire Dancing for the Games project.

This is a part-time position with normal working hours Monday - Friday however occasional weekend and evening work may be required. Starting in October 2011 the freelance opportunity will be for 9 months until July 2012.

Learning Opportunities:

The co-ordinator will gain valuable experience of working on the dance development programme as well as the ‘Get Dancing’ project for Staffordshire which includes:

- Supporting dance artists with the practical delivery of the Get Dancing project as a shadowing artist.
- Assisting with planning schedules and co-ordination for meetings, events and projects.
- Undertaking marketing duties including preparing copy for websites and news items and updating social networking sites i.e. twitter, facebook, dancing for the games blog and vimeo.
- Assisting the Dance Development Officer in researching and identifying, venues for residencies as well as identifying existing dance and socially excluded communities.
- Promotion of the Get Dancing programme via e-flyers, press releases, posters and displays.
- Preparing and sending out newsletters about opportunities and events to the dance database.
- Day to day administration duties including dealing with phone calls, e-mail enquiries, updating databases.
- Assisting with evaluation systems as part of the Get Dancing project including questionnaires, surveys and compiling statistics of participation and attendance.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:

- A dance qualification to degree level or equivalent training in dance.
- A keen interest in developing a career within the dance sector.
- Highly committed and motivated.
- Good IT skills including word processing, e-mail and the internet.
- Experience of working with social media as a way of disseminating and promoting projects.
- A high standard of organisational skills.
- Ability to be flexible and use own initiative.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Ability to work as a part of a small team and on own initiative.
- A clear understanding of and a pro-active commitment to equality of opportunity and full access.
- Attend relevant training opportunities as specified by the Dance Development Officer.
- Ideally a clean driving license and own car.
- Flexibility to work a possible weekends and evening.
- Possession of full disclosure and Personal Liability insurance.
- Access to personal computer equipment and IT skills.

Period of Employment
The entire period of the freelance opportunity runs from October 2011 – July 2012

Fee: £3750 for 50 days, including travel, materials, excluding VAT. Additional expenses may be claimed if the post holder undertakes any work which involves extended travel or accommodation costs.
